The Allies
When William Johnson arrived in America from his native Ireland he had no idea what fate had in store for him. He became His Majesty’s Indian Superintendent and gain more influence over the Iroquois than any other European. He was an adopted member of the Mohawk tribe and acquired huge land grants along their river. In this painting I placed two figures that were worlds apart but allied together. Contrast the uniform and accouterments of the British Grenadier to that of his Indian counterpart. Two different cultures, two different sets of values, two different warriors both fighting in the same place at the same time.
