Apples and Corn
In October I was touring some old villages in Massachusetts and came across this old barn. The basket of autumn picked apples and corn was lying nearby. It was such a natural everyday scene I decided it would make a good painting. It looks like someone just picked these apples and set them down in the barn to do another farm chore. It’s just a simple still-life composition that probably went unnoticed as a part of everyday life in early America. I like the texture on the apples and the weave of the basket. My kids tell me they have a desire for apples everytime they see this painting.
