Awaiting The Hunt
A lantern hangs above this group of decoys carelessly piled upon an old shelf. A shotgun can be seen hanging on the wall as these objects await the hunter to put them to their use. Decoy carvers simply carved their ducks for hunting use. They never thought of their work as having artistic qualities. Today antique decoys are sought after by many collectors and fill displays in museums. Decoy carvers have been researched, and their carving styles are methods of identification to certain regions of the country.
