Braddock's Blunder
The famous defeat of General Braddock in the woods of Pennsylvania is typical of the unbending logic of the military tactics of the time. Trying to cut a road and move that many troops, along with artillery and wagons through the wilderness was a major mistake. In this painting you can see the outcome of this venture. The British were closed in on both side by heavy forest and were raked by the hit and run tactics of the French and their Indian allies.
