Country Light
A heavy plank table covered with redware and stoneware catch the window light in this hand hewn cabin. Standing by the door is evidence of an upcoming hunt. The flintlock rifle rests against the wall along with the shot pouch and horn. Hunting was not a sport for this family but a necessity. The homemade quilt covered bed on the left tells us this is a very small wilderness cabin. They did not have the luxury of a bedroom so the parents would sleep there, and have easy access to the fire in the winter season. Children slept overhead in the loft. I enjoy these compositions using the natural light coming through the window.
