Mason Jar and Pitchers
In college we learned about the Dutch painters in the Baroque period. They were famous for their dramatic use of light and dark contrasts. I was very impressed by their works and have trying for many years to get that same effect country style. In this painting the contrast can be seen with the window lighting and the dark foreground. The stoneware pitchers are backlite and there is a wonderful reflection in the mason jar with milk. Outside the window you can see a farm woman feeding the cows.
