Out Back
I saw the lighting behind this old farm house and knew I had to paint it. It was a great "light and dark" effect, set up entirely by nature, that lends itself well to the contrast of this simple country setting. Everyone has an "out back" to their home. As kids my mom was always tells us (three boys...no wonder) to go out back and play. Sometimes out back is where things are stored that you just don't want to part with yet. In this painting the old wagon wheel has been left to the weather. It has seen much better days and is probably well beyond the fixable stage. The two oak barrels probably hold rain water. My grandma use to wash her hair in rain water, said it was the best water for your hair. The old picket fence adds a dark contrast to the lighting which leads the eye deep into the distant woods.
