Pumpkin Wagon
A common scene from early America is that of a wagon and the barn. The horse and wagon could not be done without on a busy farm. In this painting I loaded a wagon full of pumpkins and placed them beside a beautiful weathered-wood barn. The eastern Indian tribes valued the pumpkin and squash so much they considered them a part of The Three Sisters, their major food sources. In early America, as today, we favor the value of the pumpkin in pies, breads, and soups. This wagon full of orange pumpkins would have kept many families full of their favorite desserts and breads for some time.
