Redware Table
I found this scene in an old house in Massachusetts. The table was full of redware and the open window created great lighting. I liked the composition with the old beams and the herbs hung for drying.. Redware was a low fire clay, which was not very durable. It was easy to obtain so many local potteries produced redware goods. Many pieces were decorated with beautiful slip-cupped designs in multi colors. Everyday pieces were simply glazed with a clear lead-based glaze. Many people in early America suffered from lead poisoning due to lead-based glazes and eating from pewter plates, which also contain lead.
