Saturdays Wash
I did this painting while on a research trip to Ontario Canada. I was drawn to the back lighting and the contrasts of darks and lights. The clothes on the line have great light falling on them. It seems that the women in the 18th and 19th centuries had certain days of the week for certain chores. Saturday was the day to do the laundry. No automatic washing machines, a scrub-board, wooden bucket, and handmade soap. You can see their dryer in use.
