Seneca Warrior
This small painting shows the trappings of war on this young Seneca brave. His hair has been plucked to leave the scalp lock, a symbol of bravery. His body has been tattooed in a series of geometric patterns, which by the end of the colonial period was going out of style. The earrings and armbands are trade silver; usually a nickel based metal. He carries a flintlock musket and a shot pouch with a skinning knife. The Seneca were a feared foe.
