The Push

By late summer 1944 most of northwestern Europe was under allied control. The Germans were on the run. In September Hitler committed the Third Reich to a massive counteroffensive in Belgium. Their plan was to put a “bulge” in the allied line of offence and break through. This drawing depicts the 2nd SS Panzer Division pushing forward under a heavy US artillery attack. The crew of the armored tank destroyer searches for its prey while artillery rains down with deadly accuracy on the advancing tanks. By mid January the bulge was pushed back and the Germany Army was in full retreat into their homeland.
